About

A cool hill station in Balochistan's Zarghoon mountains, famous for containing one of the world's largest and oldest juniper forests — trees estimated to be 5,000–7,000 years old. At 2,449m it offers a dramatic escape from the plains, with a distinct alpine character unique in southern Pakistan.

History

Ziarat became a British hill station in the late 19th century as a summer retreat for officials based in Quetta. Pakistan's founder Muhammad Ali Jinnah spent his final weeks here in 1948 — the Quaid-e-Azam Residency where he died is now a national monument. The juniper forests surrounding the town are protected as a UNESCO MAB Biosphere Reserve.
