The highest paved international border crossing in the world, connecting Pakistan and China on the Karakoram Highway. Situated inside Khunjerab National Park — a protected habitat for Marco Polo sheep, snow leopard, and ibex.

History

The Karakoram Highway over Khunjerab was completed in 1978 after 20 years of construction by Pakistani and Chinese engineers. It follows the ancient Silk Road trade route and cost the lives of hundreds of workers.
