About

The last major settlement at the uppermost end of Neelum Valley, where the valley narrows dramatically and the Neelum River runs ice-cold and crystal clear. Surrounded by dense oak and pine forest, Taobat is the final stop before the Line of Control cuts off further travel.

History

Taobat remained almost entirely cut off from the rest of Azad Kashmir until the 1980s when a road was pushed through the gorge. It was heavily affected by the 2005 Kashmir earthquake and the subsequent landslide activity that intermittently blocked the valley road for years afterward.
