About

The highest accessible peak in the Abbottabad district and arguably the finest panoramic viewpoint in the entire Galyat region at 2,750m. Far less visited than Nathiagali or Ayubia, Thandiani rewards those who make the journey with sweeping 360-degree views that on clear winter days extend from Nanga Parbat in the northwest to the Kashmir Himalaya in the northeast.

History

Thandiani was identified by British surveyors in the late 19th century as one of the finest viewpoints in the Hazara region and used as a triangulation station during the Great Trigonometric Survey of India. A bridle path was constructed from Abbottabad for the use of British officers and their families seeking cool air in summer. The small settlement on the plateau developed around a forest rest house that still stands today, though the area saw little development after independence compared to the more accessible Galyat stations further west.
