About

A remote and unspoiled valley south of Gilgit, flanked by the Nanga Parbat massif to the west. Less touristed than Hunza, it offers spectacular trekking through dense forests to alpine meadows and glaciers.

History

Astore was historically an independent chieftainship, frequently contested between Kashmiri and Gilgiti rulers. The Shina-speaking Astore people maintained distinct cultural traditions throughout centuries of external pressure.
