About

A high alpine valley above Astore town, flanked by the snows of Nanga Parbat's eastern flanks. Home to a pristine glacial lake, wildflower meadows, and a forest rest house that make it one of the finest short-trek destinations in Gilgit-Baltistan.

History

Rama served as an approach route for early expeditions to Nanga Parbat's Rakhiot face in the 1930s, when German mountaineers used it as a supply line. The valley's relative accessibility from Astore town kept it a practical — if arduous — staging ground throughout the colonial era.
