About

One of Gilgit-Baltistan's most beautiful and least-visited districts, stretching along the Ghizer River from Gilgit toward Shandur Pass. The valley holds turquoise lakes, thick pine forests, and a series of distinct sub-valleys each with their own character.

History

Ghizer was historically governed by the Raja of Punial, who paid tribute to the Maharaja of Kashmir. The valley's relative isolation preserved distinct Ismaili Muslim traditions and a remarkable degree of inter-community harmony. The road through Ghizer to Chitral was only completed in the 1990s.
