About

A vast high-altitude plateau often called the 'Roof of the World', straddling the border between Chitral and Ghizer districts. Famous for hosting the world's highest polo tournament every July on the natural grassy ground beside Shandur Lake.

History

Shandur has been a strategic crossing between Chitral and Gilgit since ancient times. The polo festival was formalized during the British colonial era as a way to foster goodwill between Chitral and Gilgit, and continues as one of Pakistan's most celebrated cultural events.
