About

A largely undiscovered valley in Upper Dir district, laced with roaring rivers and dense Deodar cedar forests that are among the finest in Asia. Significantly less touristed than nearby Swat and Kalam, Kumrat offers raw natural beauty with minimal infrastructure.

History

Kumrat remained inaccessible to most outsiders until a jeep track was carved into the valley in the early 2000s. The local Kohistani and Gujar communities have traditionally relied on the forests for timber and high pastures for seasonal livestock grazing, a practice now restricted by conservation rules.
